These 14 writing and copywriting blogs (in alphabetical order) will help you stay at the top of your game – and as well as the usual suspects, there may be a few you’re not reading yet (but should be). There’s advice on all aspects of writing, together with a favorite read from each blog.
If you’re a marketing copywriter, you have probably heard of American Writers and Artists Inc (AWAI). The organization offers training in all areas of copywriting, from direct response copywriting to writing converting web copy. So it’s no surprise that there’s a lot of excellent advice on the blog, provided by several successful copywriters earning six figures a year.

You would expect the site of the organization that runs Content Marketing World to have a lot to offer to online marketers – and it does. With 65 expert bloggers on the team, there’s a wealth of information there – the only issue is finding time to read it all.Whether you’re looking for news, strategy, case studies or advice on techniques, it’s all here.
Contently’s blog hasn’t been around very long, but it’s a one stop destination for content marketers, offering advice on everything from blogging to design to social media to sourcing to content marketing itself. It’s a great place to keep abreast of trending topics in content marketing which can provide inspiration in themselves.
Copyblogger is all about creating persuasive and compelling content. It started with the premise of helping readers get traffic, build links, get more subscribers and boost revenue. While these days, the site seems to have quite a lot to sell you, it remains a firm favorite with writers and marketers worldwide. So you’d think that the post I’m going to share would be all about words, wouldn’t you? Well, you’d be wrong.
Matt Ambrose dispenses advice on ‘punchy, persuasive copywriting’ – in fact, his take on content marketing, business writing and copy of all kinds. There’s also a great series on website conversion focusing on the design side so it’s worth digging deep into this one. Today’s pick is all about writing sales letters.
Samantha Gluck’s Freelance Writing Dreams is here because it’s important to hear about writing from the people who are doing it every day. The site is aimed at helping freelancers achieve their dreams, but that includes a good dose of information on marketing, productivity and writing skills.
I’ve been reading Men with Pens since before it was Men with Pens. I love the brand of no-nonsense writing advice that owner James Chartrand and her (yes, James is a woman) writing team dispense. The post I’m highlighting provides inspiration for writers who need a confidence boost about their craft.
I also like Is Perfectionism Holding You Back, calling out writers who are afraid to let their copy go.
Perry Marshall is best known for his advice on Google Adwords, but his site contains tips on B2B and Facebook marketing as well as thoughts about writing. There are some thought-provoking posts on this site, including today’s pick.
The SEO Copywriting blog covers all aspects of copywriting from direct response to B2B with case studies, advice on social media, content marketing and more. There’s a lot of humor as well as no-nonsense advice, of which today’s pick is a perfect example.

Cathy Miller’s tagline for Simply Stated Business is ‘keeping it simple, clear and uniquely yours’ and you won’t get a better prescription for marketing copy than that. As a 30 year veteran business writer, Cathy knows what she’s talking about and it’s all dispensed in a straightforward and easy to read style. Check out the business communication category for the most helpful tips, but don’t ignore the others.

A thinking writer is a good writer and the content on Sparksheet is guaranteed to make you think. It’s an online magazine all about using content via different methods to reach users in different places. It covers the intersection between brands and media.
12. Web Ink Now
Web Ink Now is the baby of David Meerman Scott, who weighs in on every form of online marketing strategy. The writing category is a great read for writers and contains some real gems, especially back in the archives. Today’s pick may be old but it’s still relevant.
13. Word Chef
The Word Chef is the brain child of Tea Silvestre who cooks up a storm with her words. The metaphor carries through to every aspect of her site and it’s a delight to look through the Chef’s Recommendations, get some free PB&J’s or order some takeout (aka the blog). For those looking to improve their writing the writing tips section is a goldmine, but there are also tips on building your brand, doing research and marketing, of course.
Tom Chandler’s Writer Underground is delightfully refreshing, covering a mixed bag of everything to do with writing. But since Tom has been a marketing copywriter for 25 years, there’s a lot readers can learn on this site. He introduces his KISSAM formula in today’s pick.
